As we move toward the Summer Solstice, you may be seeing more people talking about celebrations, rituals, and the longest day of the year.
If you’re anything like me, you may have wondered what all the fuss is about.
The Summer Solstice marks the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It occurs when the sun reaches its highest point in the sky, giving us the most daylight we’ll experience all year.
Long before modern calendars and smartphones, people paid close attention to the rhythms of nature. The changing seasons influenced planting, harvesting, travel, and daily life. The Summer Solstice became a time to celebrate light, abundance, growth, and the life-giving energy of the sun.
Today, people observe the Solstice in many different ways. Some celebrate through spiritual or pagan traditions. Others gather with family, spend time outdoors, or simply take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the season.
And that’s what I love about it.
You don’t have to identify as a “witch” or follow a particular spiritual path to find meaning in the Solstice.
At its heart, it’s simply an invitation to pause and notice.
Notice what has grown.
Notice what has flourished.
Notice how far you’ve come.
A Simple Summer Solstice Simmer Pot
One of my favorite ways to mark a season is through scent.
A simmer pot is exactly what it sounds like: a pot of water filled with herbs, fruits, and spices that gently simmers on the stove, filling your home with beautiful fragrance.
Many people also associate symbolic meanings with the ingredients they choose, creating a simple ritual for reflection and intention.
For a Summer Solstice simmer pot, try:
Orange slices — joy, vitality, and sunshine
Lemon slices — clarity and fresh energy
Rosemary — remembrance and protection
Mint — growth and abundance
Honey — gratitude and sweetness
Optional cinnamon stick — motivation and action
Place everything in a pot of water and simmer on low heat. Be sure to keep an eye on the water level and add more as needed.
As the scent fills your home, take a few moments to reflect.
